The Story of the Shepherd Boy

Deep within the enchanting rolling meadows, resided a young shepherd. His existence was mostly unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was to look after his herd of rams.

Their gentle baas and the whispering of the gales across the single tree on the peak were his main companions. Day in day, watching over his responsibilities instilled in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

Yet, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome plot.

Tales of wolves preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.

One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game persisted for a couple of more days. However, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
